Diabetes is now an epidemic in the United States. Thousands of people, especially children are now being diagnose at a higher rate than ever before as having Type 2, formerly known as "adult onset" diabetes. Besides being gentically predisposed, lack of exercise and obesity are the two main causes of this debilitating disease.
If you are not aware than you are diabetic, as many people are not, if you have any of the following symtoms you should see a doctor immediately:
- fatigue
- frequent urination
- excessive thirst
- swelling, numbness, or tingling in hands or feet
- blurry vision
Left untreated, diabetes can cause blindness, and loss of circulation in the feet and legs can result in amputation. We must all watch what we eat and exercise regularly if we are to
stave off this silent killer. A diet high in fat must be avoided. Eating many servings of fruit and vegetables each day and exercising, even walking, for 20-30 minutes each day can save your life.
